Designers Shantanu and Nikhil on what works this season

Yellow! Is it me you’re looking for? Model in a Shantanu and Nikhil creation

FOR WOMEN Spring is about soft hues — understated off whites and pleasing yellows. The prints are getting bigger this season with botanical patterns holding sway. There’s a lot to draw from — from the flora and fauna around us. Even when we talk ethnic patterns — the season’s main inspiration will be flowers. The silhouettes are romantic and not fitted. That explains why shift dresses are hot. Wispy fabrics are in. As for accessories, big bags and sunglasses with plastic frames are in vogue. In all, the season is about flower power and the school-girl look.

FOR MEN Mulmul is the fabric for men. Electric green and shaded hues will accentuate the chic look in the spring-summer wardrobe. The metallic look is also big and piping is a key accent this season. On the accessories front, we’d suggest belts without buckles. Instead go for plain loops. And yes, chappals are back — and will continue to make interesting footnotes for the next few months.
