Thalolam has a motley mix of songs in different genres, but the dominant musical mood is melody. Yes, there are lullabies, as the title indicates, but soft emotions permeate the album. Sohanlal’s lyrics have much imagery.
In one song, the stars are put to sleep and the clouds too have their share of work.
Melodious
There’s romance, pure love and nostalgia in the lyrics. Viswajit’s music is soft, melodious and the ragas suit the lullaby range and nostalgic nuances. The singers are all equally good. Sujatha, G Venugopal, Swetha and Haridas. The best song in the album is Aaraarumariyade… by G Venugopal. The chirpy Kandittum…by Swetha and Kinavilennum… by Sujatha come next. The ghazal overtones and the tabala beats add to the songs’ plus points.
Music arrangement is in keeping with the mood. Hindusthani traces abound in the ragas. The subject matter of love, romance, visuals of rain and tenderness of a mother come alive in the songs. Haridas’ voice is lovely in the low ranges.
Venugopal’s romantic timbre, Sujatha’s ‘come hither’ tone in her voice make the album worth listening.
Ved has produced the album. The ‘thalolam’ mood stays throughout the album and insomniacs will not hear the last song, take a bet!
