Quench your thirst this hot Summer

Summer is here and a cool drink is certainly inviting. Try these not-so-common drinks



Icy cool Beat the heat with cool drinks

Oooh! It’s hot, real hot and you yearn for something cold to drink, the minute you have downed one glass. So, for the young and the old , here are some mouth-watering recipes to satisfy your taste buds. Make these drinks with character and extr a pep. See that you have these things in the fridge always: Frozen milk, melted gelatine, pineapple or orange jelly, powdered sugar and ice cubes.

Mocha shake

Frozen milk: 250 ml

Cocoa powder: 3 teaspoons full

Instant coffee powder: 1 heaped teaspoon

Cold milk: 50ml

Vanilla essence: 1and a half teaspoon

Ice cubes: 8-10pieces

Sugar: 4-5 heaped tablespoons or as desired

Method

Break frozen milk into pieces using a knife. Put into a blender, add the remaining ingredients, taking care to add the ice cubes last. Blend till you get a smooth creamy shake. Serves four glasses.

Cool Custard shake

To prepare the custard

Milk: 250ml

Custard powder: 2 teaspoons

Sugar to taste

Boil milk and sugar, reduce the flame and add custard powder dissolved in some water in a slow stream. Cook for one minute till the mixture turns thick, remove from fire, cool , and freeze. This should be done in advance.

To prepare the shake

Frozen custard: 250ml

Sugar: 2-3 tablespoons

Pineapple jelly: 3--4 heaped tablespoons

Melted gelatine: 1 teaspoon

Vanilla essence: 1 teaspoon

Ice cubes: 10 - 12

Milk: 50 ml

Method

Mix the custard in a blender. Add the rest of the ingredients and milk. Blend slowly till you get a thick creamy drink. The gelatine holds the froth in place. Carefully spoon into glasses. Each glass should have some of the froth. Serves four.
