Art appeal Artist Sadhu Aliyur with a work
Sadhu Aliyur’s exhibition of water colour paintings is not just an attempt at something or rather a medium that artists generally avoid, but also a warning about the depleting and vanishing vegetation. “I wanted to give this medium a shot
because this is a challenging medium to work in,” says Sadhu. It is not just a shot, the life that he has captured on each canvas is striking in its fluidity. “Once a stroke has been painted using water colours, and if you change your mind there is no way you can paint over or remove, it is there. That is also the beauty of painting in water colours,” says Sadhu.
Scenery, still life, there is even a water colour rendering of Basheer painted during a camp organised as part of his birth centenary celebrations in Kozhikode.
Simple subjects
Each canvas is uncomplicated, with subject matter drawn from the seemingly mundane but for Sadhu’s each brush stroke that renders them unique. Therefore when you see a painting of rain clouds gathering for a storm, it is as if we are seeing it for the first time – that is the quality of freshness that the artist infuses into each painting. The show is on till March 31 at Durbar Hall Art Gallery.
