Effervescent Hema Malini

Draped in a blue sari designed by Satya Paul, actress Hema Malini looked simple yet elegant. She paired it with a thin golden bracelet. The Dream Girl of Bollywood was in New Delhi to launch three new commercials for a water purifier featuring her with her daughters.

On the cards

Barely accessible to the media, the actress and Bharatanatyam dancer, though, did give some hints about her upcoming performance.

“It is based on the theme of female foeticide,” she said. She will present it with her daughters, Esha and Aahana Deol. It will be depicted in an innovative way on stage.

“The abhiman of a woman will be strongly portrayed in the drama,” said Hema, whose trio performances with her daughters, presenting Odissi and Bharatanatyam, draw enthusiastic crowds. The music for the short dance ballet, said Hema, is composed by the eminent Ravindra Jain, who has also written the lyrics.

Asked for tips on well-being for aspiring dancers, she said, “As a classical dancer I avoid wearing high heels, and I advise young dancers to do the same.” As for her fitness mantra, the gorgeous actress said, “Basic yoga including pranayam — anulom-vilom — bending exercises and workouts are very important to keep a person healthy,” adding she practices them every day.

Vegetarian

Being a vegetarian, Hema said, “Milk products like curd, ghee are inseparable from my diet. I also make sure I don’t drink impure water and therefore, I drink and recommend others drink water from Kent RO only.”

Now isn’t that a dainty way of combining the classical with the modern!
