Three-day programme on human rights from April 4
|
The Goethe-Institut (Max Mueller Bhavan) in association with the Banyan Academy of Excellence in Mental Health, Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and The Ability Foundation presents “Human Rights: Sixty Years and Way To Go” from April 4 to 6.
The event will open with the first part of a film series on human rights at the Film Chamber theatre. Chennai-based actor-director Rohini and director Nishta Jain from Mumbai are special guests and will discuss with the audience their films “Silent Hues” (Rohini) and “Lakshmi and Me” (Nishta). Award winning European short documentaries will also be screened. The second part of the film series will be held on April 5.
On the same day, a symposium (9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) will be held and will deal with issues such as education, child labour, disability, homelessness, nutrition and more. Speakers include Mukul Sharma (Manager of Amnesty International India), Maureen and Timeri Murari (journalist/writer), R. Nataraj (State Human Rights Commission), Kalpana Balakrishnan (Head, Department of Environmental Engineering, Sri Ramachandra Medical College), Bettina Muller (Banyan Academy of Leadership and Mental health), Anupama Sekar (Centre for Communication and Development Studies, Pune), Janaki Pillai (The Ability Foundation) and Erwin Wendland (Consul, German Consulate, Chennai).
