How can I get rid of lice? Suggest a home remedy. — Ujjwala

Apply vinegar on the hair and the scalp. After half an hour, run a fine-toothed comb through your hair. As vinegar loosens the nits (eggs), they can be easily removed by hand. Then wash the hair, using less shampoo and rinsing well with water. Add two tablespoons of vinegar to a mug of water and use it as the last rinse. Again, run a lice comb through your hair. Do this daily for one week.

Whenever I go out in the sun, my skin burns and looks bad. I am fair-complexioned and my skin is dry. Abdul

Apply a sunscreen before going out in the sun. Select a sunscreen with SPF 20 or above. It should be applied 20 minutes before you set out. If you stay out for long, reapply the sunscreen. Most sunscreens are also moisturisers. Sun-exposure can deplete moisture and cause further dryness. Mix honey and milk, and apply it daily. Wash it off after 15 minutes. It will soothe the skin and also relieve dryness.

My skin is oily and dark. My elbows and feet too are dark. Is there any way to lighten my complexion? Srividya

Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice and apply the paste at least thrice a week. Wash it off when it is dry. Rub the feet and the elbows daily with pieces of lemon. Wash the feet and the elbows and apply til oil, massaging it into the skin.

Threading of upper lip hair for years has caused dark patches.Janita

Mix rice powder with curd and use it as a facial scrub once or twice a week. Apply it on the dark area, rubbing it gently on the skin with tiny circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply it daily. Wash it off after 15 minutes with plain water. Twice a week, apply a face mask. Mix three teaspoons of oatmeal with one teaspoon each of honey, curd and lemon juice, or egg white. Apply it on the entire face, avoiding the lips and the area around the eyes. Wash it off after half an hour.

What is an astringent lotion and how to make it at home? Kalai

An astringent lotion helps reduce oiliness and close the pores. You can buy an astringent lotion. If you find it harsh, mix it with rose water in equal quantities and use. You can also apply cucumber juice as it has an astringent effect. Or, you can mix rose water and witch hazel in equal quantities. Witch hazel will be available at the chemist’s shop.
