The wait is finally over! McDonald’s is here in Chennai and has opened its first outlet at Ascendas IT Park’s food court. Amit Jatia, MD and JV Partner, McDonald’s India (West and South) says, “We are extremely excited about this launch. It is a privilege for McDonald’s to be in Chennai and serve people here.” Actress Ranjitha was the chief guest at the event and spent time interacting with Ronald, the friendly mascot and Chief Happiness Officer of McDonald’s.

While Ronald kept people entertained with his antics and conversation, Vinil Chandran, Area Supervisor, Chennai, took people around on a tour of the kitchen and cold storage. The kitchen here follows a unique “Made For You” (MFY) concept where, the orders are processed only after a customer places an order. This concept is so far followed by only five of the many McD outlets. This however does not mean that the other branches serve pre-prepared items. They follow a Grid pattern wherein the items are ready but disposed off within 10 minutes if not ordered by the clients.

Charity auction

How much would you pay for your burger? Four lakhs is what Sivakumar paid for his burger at the auction held at the launch. The charity auction was conducted to commemorate the launch of McDonalds in Chennai and the proceeds went to The Banyan, an NGO which works to support destitute women.

According to Jatia, “At McDonald’s we always focus on providing Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value (QSC &V) to our customers.” Talking about future plans Jatia says, “Over the next five years we plan to set up 15-20 restaurants within this city. Our team has started looking for markets in Coimbatore and other cities in the South. We take one step at a time as the most important thing for us is getting everything right rather than rushing and being everywhere.”
