Book writing
As part of the International Book Festival, the festival committee is organising a Children’s Book Festival. Children can compile a book on how they spent their vacations. The book does not have to be limited to exploring the writing skills of children, other skills such as photography, cartoons, sketches, painting too can be explored. The book does not have be not only in prose form. It can include poetry, book appreciation anything that interests children can be part of the project.
Children can design a cover for the book too. The project can be readied in April-May, it has to be submitted before June 15. The children should be between 13 – 18 years of age. The book should not exceed 100 pages of a college notebook. Contact: 0484 – 4047588.
Dance and Music classes
Kochin Kalanikethan will conduct classes in Carnatic and light music, Bharatanatyam, folk dance and cinematic dance, organ and guitar, ornament making, drawing and painting. Contact: 0484 – 2324588.

Personality Development
Mind Parlour Learning Systems is conducting an ‘Overall Empowerment’ programme for children. The programme, according to the organisers, is aimed at improving the mental faculties of children, meditation, creative visualisation besides introducing kids to a host of other skills such as computers, a fun approach to mathematics and problem solving. Film and literature camp
Ernakulam Public Library is conducting a literary camp to familiarise students with Malayalam and world literature. The camp will include orientation classes in creative writing, painting, scriptwriting and film history. Experts in the fields will be involved in the camp. There will be film screenings as well. The camp will be organised in two phases. The first will be from April 16 to April 20 for children between 10 to 15 years of age. Scientific summer camp
Responsible Parenting India Foundation is conducting a ‘Smart Summer 08’, an exclusive scientific summer camp designed for children in different age groups. The camp has scheduled to begin at Bharath Mata College auditorium, Thrikakkara, Kakkanad from April 15 to May 17, in three batches for students of class 1 to class 10. The camp comprises of special interest areas like scientific designing of tools and techniques, charting of soft skills and life skills, children’s movies festival, filmmaking and interaction with film personalities. Mathematics
SMA Abacus will conduct Abacus training classes to improve the mathematical skills of children. The classes will be conducted during April-May. The classes will cover two to three levels of Abacus training. The classes will be held in two batches. The timings are 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. The classes are open for children between 6 and 14. Contact: 0484 – 4046061.
Summer skill workshop
‘Masthi Ki Pastishala’ by Federal Bank’s ‘Yuva Mitra’ account. The camp will be on April 7 to April 11 for children between 14 to 18 years of age. The workshop will be held at the Marthoma Guidance Centre, Thamanam. The timings are from 9. a. m. to 5. 30 p.m. Some of the topics that will be covered will include public speaking, motivation, leadership, power dressing for an interview, body language, speech etiquette, fine dining etc. This programme is conceived by Magic Matchbox Corporate Services.
