Blessing

Omnibus operators fear losing business on shifting their operations from shopping complex bus stand to the proposed new site. Passengers from other parts of the State have to come all the way from Mattuthavani to Periyar Bus stand to catch the omnibuses. Madurai omni bus operators’ association contends that they operate only 25 buses from Madurai but this view has been refuted by the TNSTC. At least 46 buses are plying from Madurai and further omnibuses from other districts also come and go. The new proposal would facilitate passengers to choose between State-run buses and private buses if omnibuses are shifted to Mattuthavani. Assurance from Madurai Corporation Commissioner to give 10 acres for 100 buses and all facilities, including booking office, parcel office, separate parking for two-wheelers and cars and shops is a golden opportunity. Shifting omnibus stand from complex bus stand to Mattuthavani si nothing but a "blessing in disguise".

K.Ramachandran,

Madurai.
