This idea of a terminal for omnibuses at Mattuthavani, belated though, can solve many problems faced by travellers today. But only if it is designed to be commuter friendly. The ticket booking counters of various omnibus operators should be located within the terminal and not in their offices in different parts of the city. The terminal should have hygienically run and well equipped cafeteria on each platform so as to discourage passengers, in their own interest, from patronising unhygienic, open-air eateries that are bound to come up on the periphery of the terminal. The terminal’s police outpost should be wary of unsocial elements like touts operating inside the terminal leading to unhealthy competition between the omnibus operators much to the dilemma of the travellers. Madurai Municipal Corporation should maintain a round the clock supply of water for the upkeep of the pay and use toilets and other needs of the terminal.
