The director known for launching fresh faces is back with her baton

Obsessed with fresh talent Jaya with heroine Suhani
After basking in the arc lights with three movies that had love and sentiment as the main ingredients, director B. Jaya has moved onto a different turf with her Sawal. “It has some action scenes. But is not a hardcore action
film and is an entertainer. This subject offers enough cinematic room to create a wholesome entertainer with all the commercial ingredients including some well choreographed action blocks. The USP is its universal appeal," says Jaya. As an after thought she adds, “The film has Premisthe fame Dhandapani and a young villain Vinayak. Maybe due to the publicity there is an impression that it is an action flick."
She calls her film a teasing drama. "The plot involves hero Bharath who is a police informer and Sayaji Shinde, a police officer who gets the tips to nab criminals. The screenplay is more on the lines of Idiot and Dhee." She is all praise for her film’s hero Bharath who she thinks will go places in the industry after the film’s release. "Till now his talent has not been properly tapped. He has abundant talent and more than that dedication. My heroine Suhani was a child actor before being introduced as the leading lady. If Bharath takes the lead in the first half the second half (of the film) belongs to her. She is a combination of glam and grit," says the director.
Right from her debut film, Chantigaadu, Jaya has been introducing new talents be it the actors or lyricists or other technicians. Baladitya and Suhasini (Chantigaadu), Kamna Jethmalani (Premikulu), Nicole (Gundammagaari Manavadu) are some of the stars who found some space in the industry. "I am happy that they are busy with assignments in Telugu and Tamil. Sawal sees Malayalam music director Jessie Gift debuts in Telugu films. Though he had scored music for Yuvasena earlier, since it was a remake he could use his tunes from the original version. So when we approached him he was reluctant to score music telling that he is not familiar with Telugu film music. Then I sent him CDs containing the music of maestros S. Rajeswara Rao, Pendyala, Aadinarayana Rao, Ramesh Naidu, Chakravarthy to Keeravani and Chakri to name a few. So that he can learn the evolution of Telugu film music over the decades. There is enough room for one more music director here," she smiles.
She finds it a pleasure to work with fresh talent. "Their work will be fresh. They are totally dedicated and it is easy to mould them the way you want."
After Sawal what next? "I have two scripts ready. One is an offbeat theme, close to my heart. The other one is a commercial subject. My detractors (she laughs) are advising me to concentrate on establishing the name first with one more commercial grosser before taking up an offbeat subject. They may be right," she says.
