Stella Maris College presents a textile show “Kriti” from April 11 to 12 (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.). The show will display the creations of the outgoing post-graduate students of the Department of Fine Arts of the college. There will be nine col
lections including home textiles, apparel and yardage.
Keerthi Vaishnavi’s “Ahra’ comprises screen-printed flat sheets, duvet covers, shams and cushions in earthy tones. Shapes and spirals that have been derived from seashells are used as motifs in R. Suganya’s “Zukti”, a collection of embroidered table linen in cotton.
Colours characterises both Bernice Vijayan’s and Rashmi Jethwani’s cushion lines. Bernice’s digital printed cushions “Xa” are her personal interpretation of the Mughal era. Rashmi’s cushions draw inspiration from the legends and motifs seen in Indian truck art. Titled “Ok” they have been done in silk and embellished with kantha work.
Rain is the inspiration for Payal Jain’s “Nilima” a collection of saris, salwar fabrics and stoles in soft shades. Sheila Thomas’ “Atara” is her tribute to Chennai. She has hand block-printed offbeat graphic designs with vegetable dyes on to yardage.
Leela, a playful collection of pavadai-chattais and pavadai-dhavanis showcase R. Nageswari’s exploration of Indian board games. Another festive range is by Mariam Aysha’s "Mathappu", whose pattu pavadai range is inspired by firecrackers.
Remya Jose’s “Tarunya”, is a line of salwar fabrics and made-ups patterned with geometric designs using resist block prints.
Kriti will be held at Chamiers, R.A. Puram, Mandaveli.
