I have combination skin. It becomes dry when I apply compact powder. Suggest some tips to make the skin fresh and glowing. — Preethi
Apply a light moisturising lotion, wait for 10 minutes and then apply compact powder. Mix honey with egg white and apply it daily. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Twice a week combine one teaspoon of curd, one teaspoon of honey, 3 teaspoons of oatmeal and rose water. Apply it on your face, avoiding the lips and the area around the eyes and wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes. Mix the liquid ingredients gradually to get the right consistency. It should be a thick paste, which does not drip.
My face is large. What kind of haircut should I go in for? — Jayashree
‘Large’ does not really convey anything about the shape of the face. Is it longish, or squarish, i.e. wide at the jawline? Square faces need to be softened with a style that falls around the face in soft curves and curls. Never pull the hair back or up, if you have a large or square face, as this would emphasise the facial structure. A side parting, a fall of hair at the temples, with the rest coming down and curling forward at the jaw line has a softening effect. A soft fringe on the forehead would help a longish face. The hair should not be allowed to fall straight down, as this would give an impression of length. A layered cut, keeping these points in mind would be good.
I have a problem with unwanted hair on my body. Is laser treatment the only way to get rid of it? Or is there something I can prepare at home? — Pravalika
For removal of body hair, waxing is the best option. You should have it done at a beauty salon. Waxing removes hair by the root and this is said to gradually lessen hair growth. Normally, you would have to get waxing done after four or six weeks. You may find the interval between waxing sessions increase gradually. Laser treatment would require many sessions, as large areas would be involved for body hair. It would also be expensive. Home remedies may lessen hair growth, but it would take time. You can add a little milk to turmeric paste and rub it on the body. It may leave a yellowish colour on the skin.
How can I get rid of pimples? The pimples on my cheeks are big and reddish. — Shareen
Wash the face only twice a day with a medicated soap. After washing, wipe with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. After washing in the morning, mix a little rose water with sandalwood paste and apply it on the entire face. Wash it off after 15 minutes. Once daily, mix half a teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of lemon juice and apply it on the entire face for 15 minutes. Wash it off with plenty of water. Mix cinnamon powder with a little lemon juice and a few drops of honey into a paste. Apply it only on the big pimples and leave it on for an hour or two. You can also simmer neem leaves in water. Cool and strain. Apply the paste of the leaves on the face.
What do I do about dark arms and knees? — Meena
For the arms, mix gram flour (besan), curd, lemon juice and a little turmeric (haldi), and apply it at least three times a week. Wash it off after half an hour. Then apply til oil and massage it into the skin. For the knees, rub lemon pieces on them daily and wash. Then apply til oil and massage it into the skin. You can also apply the besan mixture thrice a week on the knees.
My arms and thighs are very fat. How can I reduce them? — Jaishree
After consulting your doctor, you can try the following spot reducing exercises daily. For the arms, stand with feet slightly apart. Stretch them out to the sides, with palms facing upwards. Rotate the arms in small circles, clockwise and then anti-clockwise. Do this 10 times each and increase gradually. For thighs, lie on your right side, leaning on your elbow. Place the left hand on the floor, palm downwards, in front of your chest. Lift your left leg about 8 inches off the floor and hold it. Supporting yourself with your hips, elbow and hands, try to raise the right leg to try and touch the raised left foot. Return both legs slowly to the floor. Repeat this 5 times and then turn on your left side and repeat.
