Preserve

Madurai city is more than 2,500 years old and has a rich cultural heritage and history. The temple city boasts of its legacy -- the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Koodal Azhagar Temple and Mariamman Teppakulam. The other historic buildings with unique attraction include Thirumalai Nayak Palace, St.Mary’s Cathedral and Victorial Edward Hall. The heritage buildings of Madurai attract tourists as they differ in style, period, builder, history and special features. Gandhi Museum, The American College Main Hall and Sourastra School Building stand as testimony to the unique diversity of Madurai city. Though on the decline, there are many privately owned old houses which add to the rich heritage of the city and these private houses have to be preserved at any cost to retain the distinctive identity of this ancient city.

T.Smiles,

Madurai.
