Summer blood

Sangrias on offer

The Sangria Fiesta heralds this summer at Azzurro Kitchen and Bar in Saket. Sangria, the iconic Spanish fruit-filled wine beverage, is sampled by tourists in Spain and imitated elsewhere. Now Delhi can drink a toast to all of April with the ongoing f estival. The word ‘sangria’ originates from the Spanish word ‘sangre’ meaning ‘blood’. It typically consists of red wine, chopped or sliced fruit, a sweetener such as honey or fruit juice, a small amount of added spirit and soda.

Chief Chef and owner Shrivant Rajgarhia says, “Sangria is the perfect party punch that everybody loves! Our beverage menu features a fresh, fruity and delicious selection of sangrias that are made in a number of styles from spicy to mild to rich to bubbly. Our sangrias are made with red wine, white wine, and even sparkling wine.” The restaurant had been serving the traditional sangria but decided to experiment a bit more through the Sangria Fiesta. Rajgarhia claims that the drink has been gaining a lot of popularity.

A variety

There are eight different types of sangrias on offer. The traditional sangria has wine served with fruit and a special spirit mix. Its ambrosial sweet and tangy taste is the safest bet. More adventurous drinkers can opt for the zesty spicy sangria, which includes generous amounts of cinnamon and Tabasco. The melon ball sangria is a huge hit, with its delicious and refreshing fresh melon mix. Sangria blanco is made of white wine, while Absolut sangria is prepared with Absolut vodka. A pitcher of sangria can also be pre-ordered while making reservations at the restaurant.

Although there isn’t authentic Spanish food to go with the drink, one can choose from a wide variety of delectable cuisine. Azzurro specialises in exclusive Mediterranean cuisine and offers Italian and Moroccan as well. It is perfect for people craving a quiet place where they can enjoy their food and their company. The soothing and minimalist off-white ambience and efficient service make the food even more enjoyable.
