Landscapes Kashinath Hiremath
The water colour frames that have been put up at Durbar Hall Art Gallery evoke a sense of déjÀ vu in you. There are 27 works, all scenes from the coutryside and riverside pilgrim centres, by the looks of them. Kashinath Hiremath, the artist
, is a retired teacher of arts from Maharashtra whose son is living in Kochi now. This is his 12th exhibition so far.
He has exhibited in Delhi, Pune, Mysore and Mumbai among other places. His water colour world is inhabited by buildings, people and trees. The canvas is big. One small frame has buildings, roads, trees and people, mostly north Indian scenes.
Hiremath’s style differs from work to work. As he says, ‘the subject of a painting is not important…pleasure in that work is important.” The artist confesses he is learning still and he considers all those who have given their opinions on his works as gurus, for he takes them seriously. Many of his works remind you of water colour maestro Milind Mulick’s works, like the one of a cart going along a rustic road, with a fence alongside. The exhibition got over on Wednesday.
