Pooja Singhal studied not to become a fashion designer but a management professional. This 33-year-old Delhiite, armed with an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, is but today a designer, following her interest. Now with over two years of experience in the field, Pooja is looking to develop her flagship label “Ruh” as a leading fashion brand, tending to the design needs of women’s wear in India. She opened second outlet recently at the Saket City Walk Mall.
Her collection this season is predominantly Indo-western prêt, with a range of salwar-kameez, kurtis and assorted evening wear. The stand-out factor in the collection is the uncluttered but conventional use of surface ornamentation in the form of Gota work to define traditional mango motifs.
The range of tops in black and white, most of which include only a restrained or pleasing smattering of embellishments, are ideal as evening wear. The designer says she is inspired by “a burst of colours”. Her design team has worked with the weavers of Maheshwar and Chanderi to develop fabrics, besides using linen, chiffon and georgette.
On opening an outlet in a mall where most come only to window-shop, Pooja, who has another store in Khan Market, feels it will not affect her business adversely. “We guarantee very good products. So I am confident it will induce people to buy it,” she says. Her products range from Rs.900 to 5000.
