Save your hair from the sun. Here is how

With a purpose Eesha at work
The hot summers are here and accessories like sun hats, umbrellas and goggles are out. So are most people trying to stave off sunburns and wrinkled skin by taking precautions. But many nutritionists and cosmetologists believe hair also needs complete care in summers. And that is what many give a go by.
Suggests Eesha, who runs a popular outlet called 10 On 10 in the city’s Lajpat Nagar area, “With the changing season, one has to keep changing shampoos and conditioners as well. With the scorching summer heat, the sweat and sebaceous glands get hyperactive, resulting in scalp problems. To prevent this, increase the frequency of shampooing and conditioning.” A mild shampoo with a light conditioner should be used for normal hair. She suggests that all hair types should use a conditioner; even oily hair needs to be regularly conditioned.
Eesha warns people against applying henna on hair. “Henna should never be applied to hair. It is acidic in nature. Its particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the hair and can never be washed off completely. The hair becomes dry and starts to break.” Eesha whose outlet offers a good range of health options for body care, and has a list of Delhi’s who’s who as her clients, suggests that ammonia-free colours should be applied on the hair with henna. Particularly for the summer, there are some home remedies which can be adopted. Some common ones are:
•Squeeze a lemon in a mug of water for the last rinse after a hair wash. It maintains the hair’s pH balance and keeps the scalp healthy.
•A pack of curds, 1/2 to six tsp of honey and juice of a lime should be applied on the hair and the scalp for shiny and healthy hair.
•Itchy and inflamed scalp can be cured by applying a paste of soaked fenugreek seeds on the scalp. • A pack of ripe papaya is also good for the scalp and hair. •Applying a paste of china rose leaves. It will make your hair soft and shiny, it also has anti- fungal properties.
•To avoid split ends and cure brittle ends, apply a protein mask by mixing egg white with curds and lemon juice. Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse.
•Adding a tbsp of vinegar in a mug of water for the last rinse after shampooing can cure dandruff.
•For black and silky hair, boil equal quantities of amla and shikakai in an iron utensil. Rinse the hair with the sieved liquid.
•Dandruff can be treated by applying a mixture of 1/2 a cup of milk with the juice of a lemon. Apply it directly into the roots, massage lightly and rinse well after 30 minutes.
“ Diet rich in vitamins and proteins is a must for healthy hair,” adds Eesha. The services at 10 on 10 begin at Rs. 400 and go up to 2000. For appointments, call 011-46581664 / 5
