Help restore
A ‘heritage’ building was constructed on a hillock in 1910 to oversee the
sewage farm in Avaniapuram. This farm made a name for itself and was considered a model farm, highly complimented by visiting dignitaries from different countries like US, China, Malaysia and New Zealand and scientists from international organisations like FAO, WHO and UN. A news article in the Hindu (dt. November 15th, 1937) records the then Minister for Public Health, T.S.S. Rajan’s, visit to this farm and mentions that the annual income generated by this farm amounted to ten to fifteen thousand rupees even in 1937. This place retains its scientific, economic and environmental significance. However, the building itself, which merits preservation for its historical value, remains in a dilapidated state. It is used as the office of the Farm Superintendent, Madurai Corporation. Can the Madurai Corporation invest in restoring this heritage building?
