For a rice eating country, it is rather odd that risotto is not a sought after Italian dish. Perhaps, it is the al dente nature of the cooked rice (usually Arborio) or perhaps it has something to do with the lack of spice.

The Risotto Milanese at Prego, which is prepared in the fashion created by an Italian chef with the use of a real gold leaf, is well worth a try. It strikes the right note, being appropriately buttery and al dente and could be a nice surprise if you are the sort who is reflexively prejudiced about having rice in an Italian meal.

Price: Rs. 675 plus taxes

Bottomline: Steadfastly conventional but a nice surprise all the same
