oodles of attitude Gwen, Rupa and Iris strike a pose

Three wannabe models pouted, pirouetted and posed like professionals as the lights flashed in tandem with the clicking of cameras. The sizzling action by the poolside at Hotel Uday Samudra, Kovalam, sent the shutterbugs into overdrive and some of the m seemed to be on the verge of an unplanned dive into the pool as they tried to capture the fleeting expressions that played on the faces of the models.

As choreographer Andy exhorted them to hold a pose or a smile, the models, all airbrushed and dressed in coordinated colours, effortlessly went through their paces without a single misstep.

But then these contestants for the fifth edition of Channel V’s fashion-based reality show ‘Get Gorgeous’ are being groomed for this.

“The hunt is for India’s and, perhaps, the world’s top models,” said Pia, celebrity VJ , fashionista and hostess of the show.

And going by the poise of Iris, Rupa and Gwen, three of the 16 contestants, it looked like the participants are all set to grace the covers of all the top fashion magazines in the world. Their attitude, glamour and looks were all in place as they participated in a round called ‘the airhostess round’ which required the contestants to play their role and yet look stylish and poised.

Team of experts

Helping them reach that coveted place under the arclights is a team of experts in the beauty and fashion business that comprises designers Rahul Khanna and Rohit Gandhi, fitness expert Yasmin Haz, international fashion and beauty photographer Nisha Kutty and actor Upen Patel.

Each is a member of the jury but plays a key role in the contestants’ grooming.

Yasmin, the one who is reportedly responsible for Kareena Kapoor’s size zero figure, emphasises that she is working with the contestants to improve their posture, diet and fitness regimes and not help them “reduce.”

Nisha Kutty helps them understand the dynamics of photography and colours as she focusses on them for the various rounds. “We have already completed a swimwear round,” she says.

The 16 participants of the show will be put through various rounds that will give them an idea of the trials and tribulations of a model in the highly competitive world of glamour and help them cope with the demands of their profession.

The bonanza

In addition to a contract with Channel V, the winner of ‘Get Gorgeous 2008’ gets the opportunity to work with Ice Model Management. There will also be a date with the fashion magazine L’Official.

Till the rounds are completed and a winner chosen from amongst the glamorous babes, looks like the temperature in and around Kovalam is going to be a few degree higher than in the district, as these youngsters set the ramps on fire.
