Car and bike questions? We have the answers

I am planning a tour to Sikar, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Bikaner on my Royal Enfield 350. Could you please provide me with a route?

Bandhuraj

Our suggestion is that you ride from Delhi to Jaipur, and then to Sikar and Bikaner. Jaipur is on NH 8 from Delhi. From there, get onto NH11 to Sikar and Bikaner. Do take in Gajner too, which is 34 km from Bikaner. You can then ride down to Nagaur, 126 km from Bikaner, on NH 89. En route, you can also stop by at Deshnoke, famous for its Rat Temple and 83 km from Gajner.

From Nagaur, ride 128 km on NH 65 to get to Jodhpur, and then to Pali, a distance of 70 km on NH 65. From Pali, hit NH14 to Sirohi, 111 km away. Udaipur is 115 km from Sirohi.

You can ride back to Delhi along the Golden Quad taking in Chittaurgarh and Ajmer along the way. However, remember that though the roads are good, this is a long distance to cover and that Rajasthan is already hot at this time of the year.

Expect temperatures in the high 30s during the day. While riding from Bikaner to Jodhpur and Udaipur, watch out for sand from dunes that sometimes lies thick on the roads. You will also see peacocksand blackbucks on the road.

I have a February 2005 model Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i. Of late, the silencer emits some noise as if a metal part has broken within. Should I change the silencer or is there any other way to get rid of this problem?

Gaurav

You could try having the silencer opened by a welder and get the parts that are rattling inside welded. However, the best thing to do is to buy a new silencer.

I am a college student and own a Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i. I wish to upgrade to a new bike and have shortlisted three models — Bajaj Avenger, Hero Honda Karizma and Yamaha YZF-R15 — displayed at the Auto Expo. I’m not concerned about mileage but only want terrific performance from my bike. Which is the best bike for me?

Arjun Singh

The specifications and technology used on the Yamaha YZF-R15 will make it the perfect bike for you. Expect it around June 2008.
