Film Rupesh Paul’s film ‘Laptop’ is an attempt to narrate a personal story on a wide canvas

Laptop,’ a 100-minute feature film, is journalist Rupesh Paul’s attempt to make a film “that does not pander to the curiosity value factor that marks most films that make it to the international film circuit.”
According to Rupesh, it is a contemporary film that focusses on social and economic events and its impact on inter-personal relationships. He prefers to call it a personal film that fuses many layers to reflect the mosaic of modern India.
Based on Subashchandran’s story ‘Puredeeshanashtam,’ the film has been scripted by Rupesh’s wife, Indu Menon. It stars Suresh Gopi, Padmapriya and Shwetha Menon in the lead roles. Carnatic vocalist Srivalsan J. Menon dons the role of the composer for the first time. Veteran singer Kalyani Menon has sung in the film and so has Srivalsan.
Commercial
“I have tried to strike a balance between the so-called commercial ingredients and the storyline which explores the troubled relationship between a mother and son. The son tries to bridge the 30-year-divide between them when he learns that his mother is dying.” explains Rupesh.
Rupesh says his film has tried to provide snapshots of Kerala’s society and contrast the lifestyles between the haves and the have-nots. For Rupesh, film-making is a passion and the self-taught director hopes to make movies that mirror contemporary events.
He feels that instead of dwelling upon the past or using romance and escapism to woo viewers, it is necessary to make films that provide a picture of the India that we see today, complete with all its richness, complexities and idiosyncrasies.
