Rare infotainment Entertainment, sports and information. New players joining in every year add value and charm to the annual industrial and agricultural exhibition
Little Sai gazed in awe at the beast of the desert taking off for a ride with an imperial magnificence. The great lurches involved when the animal sat and stood and its swaying gait mesmerized the little boy who found himself badgering his parents for a ride.
“I wish this stroppy camel could be replaced with a docile one,” he murmured, as his father helped him sit up on the carpeted saddle. The mystical hump, the stamping of its pantomime feet, the fiercely bare teeth -- jagged and yellow, and the leisurely progress were an out-of-the-world experience for the little one. “The view is so much better from here,” he squealed in excitement savouring the joy of being up some forgotten furrow in the knitted brow of an enchanting world.
The razzmatazz that the annual industrial and agricultural exhibition unfolds at the sprawling Swaraj Maidan attracts fun-lovers in droves from every nook and cranny of the city. The holiday season is finally in full swing. The last batch of students, who finished final exams, are scampering to the venue to drown their prolonged cribbing in the exciting world of entertainment that awaits them.
The event brings an unalloyed delight, bright and breezy escapist fare that’s pure entertainment, filled with romance, adventure, action and beautiful people around. As the sun retires to the vast expanse of a crimson red skyline, a steady stream of pleasure-seekers pour in from all quarters. The buzz generates a unique high and the venue is transformed into a hotspot for young and old alike. Bubbly teenyboppers, suave couples, hunks on a lookout for girls with spunk, everyone finds a reason enough to be amidst all the action and thrill.
Bustling stalls
Garrulous and gossipy teens wary of the roving eyes of their ‘admirers’, the middle-aged engaged in glorified conversations peppered with experiences that sound mind-bendingly different from that of your own and the grand old grandparents with their young ones in tow, become part of the majestic show.
After walking through rows of 500-odd bustling stalls that offer a unbelievable range of products, be it the latest electronic gadgets, home appliances, kitchenware, trendy garments or health equipment, the food court with an enticing array of delicacies beckons food-lovers.
The indispensable ‘entertainment pavilion’ which has roller coaster rides like the tora-tora, frizbee and giant wheel, is a rage. The imposing size of the rides and their magnificent illumination, exude a magnetic pull.
The exciting rides help you to take a delirious spin in the air, offering a wonderful overview of the brilliantly lit-up city. The frizbee, dotted with splendid hues, moves through the air while rotating, while the battery-powered lights emit diodes. The hanging arms of the giant wheel enable a free hanging of the gondolas and thus allow an excellent vision.
The fun-filled days are limited and this is the kind of event that can drip-feed denizens on liberal doses of amusement that will perhaps help them survive the monotony, which engulfs the remaining part of the year ahead.
