MANE MATTERS

Condition right

JAWED HABIB

For hair that looks its prettiest, proper conditioning is a must. Right conditioner is food for hair.

It makes hair sleeker, shiner and healthier. Everyone who has hair needs a conditioner. The trick lies in selecting it right for your particular hair type.

Some conditioners simply ease combing and banish static.

Others restore softness and shine that is diminished by shampooing and styling, while some build strength and resilience destroyed by perming, bleaching and sun exposure.

Here are some essential facts about conditioners:

*Read the product’s directions and follow them to the letter, because conditioners are designed to work their best for the time period specified on the package. Twenty minutes to deep conditioning can really pay off in body, softness and shine.

*If you live in a high pollution area do not use a conditioner that has high oil content. It will attract dirt and grime.

*If you leave the conditioner in you’ll end up with a style that falls flat. Rinse until hair feels smooth, but not coated. If what goes down the drain still has bubbles in it, you haven’t rinsed enough.

*If your conditioner stops giving you great results, use a clarifying shampoo once a week.

*Do not use too much conditioner. A 50 paise coin-sized dollop for short to medium length hair and one rupee sized amount for longer hair is plenty.

* A too strong shampoo can negate a conditioner’s benefits. It is not necessary to use the same brand of conditioner as your shampoo.

Keeping hair healthy in general adds more shine than any single conditioner.
