I apply coconut oil on my body and face before a bath. Is it all right to use coconut oil on the skin? I have a lot of open pores. How do I get rid of them? Mamta

Open pores occur on oily skin, or on the oily areas of combination skin. Therefore, avoid applying coconut oil on the face. It will lead to more open pores. You can apply it on the body. After washing your face, apply an astringent lotion on the areas with open pores. Mix oatmeal with egg white and apply it three times a week on the open pores. Wash it off when it dries. If you do not wish to use egg, mix multani mitti with rose water into a paste. Apply it on the areas with open pores daily, washing it off when it dries.

I have lots of pimples on my face and my skin is very oily. Christy

Dandruff can lead to pimples. Wash your face twice a day, morning and night with a medicated soap. Then, wipe it with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Mix a little rose water with sandalwood paste and apply it on the entire face, washing it off after 15 minutes with plain water. Mix cinnamon powder with a little lemon juice and a few drops of honey into a paste. Apply it only on the pimples daily and leave it on for at least one hour. Simmer neem leaves in water. Cool and strain the water. Make a paste of the neem leaves and apply it daily on your face. Avoid creams.

I look fair but my hands are dark, dry and rough. — Preethi

For dark hands, take two tbsp of sunflower oil and three tbsp of coarse sugar. Mix the two into a paste. Apply it daily on your hands, rinsing it off after 15 minutes. Wear rubber gloves while using detergents for household chores. After using soap or detergents, massage your hands with cream.

I have dry and dark lips. Applying vaseline every two hours does not help. Uma

The skin on the lips is thin and delicate. After washing your face, rub lips gently with a soft towel when they are wet. This helps remove dead skin. Then apply cream of milk, leaving it on for an hour. Apply pure almond oil daily on your lips at night, leaving it on overnight. Change your brand of lipstick because the perfume in some lipsticks can cause darkness as a reaction to sun-exposure (photosensitivity).
