Stylish tresses are not the prerogative of women alone. Men too are willing to try out new cuts



FANCY STYLES ARE IN A model sporting one of the latest cuts

For men who do not know how to style their hair or are bored with the same old style they have had ever since they were kids and had their mommies oiling their hair or thought the only hair care product available was good old coconut oil, read on. Ha ir care and hair style are no longer a woman’s bastion.

The metro sexual, ubersexual era has generated a great demand for men’s hair styles and styling products. This is the age when most men forgo their neighbourhood barber and head to stylists to get their hair done and are also ready to shell out wads of cash.

What’s hot

The influx of Bollywood icons with their sculpted bodies, fancy hairstyles and “fair and handsome” looks have added to the demand in the men’s grooming market. Let’s steal a look at what’s hot for men this season.

Expert stylist Asif, who styles the manes of many Bollywood celebrities, says, “This season the trend is clearly the polished, corporate look with very short hair. The colour ranges from subtle and sober browns to blondes. All in all, it is the barbered, clean-shaven look that men can sport now.”

But there is a disparity between the styles in Mumbai and the ones down South. According to Bonny,Schwarzkopf Professional’s technical adviser “In Mumbai, people are ready to go for anything but in the south not many people are ready to experiment.”

Talking about present day trends, Jammie, head stylist of Naturals, who is Suriya’s stylist for his upcoming movie ‘Ayan’ says, “Though short cuts and shades such as dark blonde, cappuccino and tobacco are in, clients ask for funky shades like blue, contrast red and copper and for African style hair braiding with beads or layer cuts with lengthy layers.

“Some clients ask for buzz cuts with designs or have their names shaved along the sides or back of their heads.”This summer, the clean-shaven, tonsured look is also gaining popularity.

Najeeb Ur Rehman, Technical Manager, Schwarzkopf Professional, talks about another interesting look called the Boy’s Own Look.

“Blurring the lines of traditions, this is all about bringing out manly charm,” he adds.

For corporates, Najeeb says, “Clean cuts with minimal textures are big and for college students an asymmetrical fringe in the front with a shattered punk at the back are in.”

The long dishevelled look is also in demand, courtesy Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan.
