Spanish wine Marco Abella is coming to India
|
With nearly 1.2 million hectares of land under wine, Spain continues to be the country with the largest area under vineyards. They are Spain’s third ranked crop by area after cereals and olive tree.
And India, with its burgeoning market for just about everything, is an attractive destination for Spanish wines. Recently David Marco Moliner, President, Marco Abella, one of Spain’s renowned traditional wineries, was in New Delhi.
Remarking on the growing popularity of wine in India, Moliner said, “Indian people are open to accept new trends and we have got a good platform to start with the business of wine, especially in metropolitan cities like Delhi.”
Excellent response
Saying the company had got an “excellent” response from India, he said, “We sell wines at affordable prices so that upper-middle strata of society can afford to purchase it.”
The most expensive wines and frequently in demand are Clos Abella, Mas Mallola and Olbia. Mas Mallola and Clos Abella are red wines popular in South Asian countries. Olbia is a white wine. Marco Abella exports 80 per cent of its production. The U.S., Switzerland, Germany, the U.K. and India are the company’s prime purchasers and negotiations are on with other countries across the world.
