Many hues of Krishna

Kishore Roy has presented Krishna in a unique way
|
Mythological figures like Ganesha and Krishna have often occupied most artists’ canvases. Strange but more artists are fascinated with these two deities, than say, Ram or Buddha and Mahavira. Adding more strength to their popularity among artists is painter Kishore Roy who, in his latest works, has played with their imagery in a unique way.
His Krishna wears headgear with Victorian designs on it. His body language bears resemblance to a modern man in love. Unlike the usual depiction by artists as a blue-skinned figure, Roy’s Krishna is green, and is bedecked with Victorian jewellery. He is nonetheless a symbol of love.
He is seen remembering Radha or writing a letter to her lounging on the couch in some works.
Roy’s child Ganesha is playful and a mother’s delight. A fascinating exhibition of his works in mixed media was held at Travancore Art Gallery recently.
Later, it moves toNitanjali Art Gallery for a week.
