Theatre Y organises acting and voice training sessions

Interested in honing your acting skills? Theatre Y announces workshops for those aged between 14 and 18 in acting and voice training conducted by stage actor and director Yog Japee. The sessions will take place at Theatre Y’s new studio space “studYo”, dedicated to theatre and related activities, located at 35, Mandaivelli Street, Mandaivelli.

For an introduction to the course and more details on the content, applications and technology, drop in at “studYo” on May 10 and 11, from 2-3 p.m or contact showup@theatrey.com or call 98840 70796.

Act One for those in the age group 14-18 includes 40-50 hours of acting and voice training spread over 3-4 weeks. The entire programme costs Rs. 5,000. This batch begins on May 13 and ends by June 3. Classes will be held Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Act One, a basic acting and voice training programme, will teach the basics through a learning-by-doing approach. It is an optimal mix of theory and practice and will take an individual from solo sessions to acting with a group. It includes the basics of voice exercises and their application in a variety of media forms and moves further into understanding and appreciating language, its dynamics and potential.

Activities of learning will cover all areas such as listening, reading aloud, text analyses and interpretation. The whole programme facilitates a thorough understanding of the self on stage through carefully chosen exercises and role-play modules.

While the programme culminates in a group related activity, a strong focus is maintained on the strengths and weaknesses of the individual. The learning methods are enhanced by detailed feedback and interactive sessions of group learning methods. The aim of the programme is to make the individual ready and confident for an audition in any stream of the media. By the end of the workshops, participants will be equipped to undergo more intensive training and build on their experience through practice.
