Lighting a hope

An exhibition on street kids

Sudip Roy

Art is not just aesthetics. It could play a larger role in bringing smiles on to the face of the underprivileged. This was the motto behind Warriors of Light 2008, an exhibition at New Delhi’s

The Ashok hotel recently. The initiative was taken by various non-governmental organisations like Youth Reach India, Vidya and Ank.

On display were portraits of well known painter Sudip Roy and photographs of street children by Tarun Chhabra.

The basic theme of the photographs was to depict the miserable situation of kids, whom we see everyday on streets selling flowers, newspapers, bags and toys, and how a large number of children are deprived of basic amenities.

In his paintings Roy depicted the childhood days of Lord Krishna and Radha.
