Summer waves

Come summer and all of us think of light, fresh and vibrant colours to wear combined with light easygoing and manageable fabrics. Renu Tandon’s new store Mynah at Select Citywalk Saket offers you different ensembles in white and other bright hues. The new store targets urban women who like to be trendy and comfortable at the same time. Her designs are a treat to the eye with their bright colours and smart styles.

Cotton or cotton based fabrics and also a very innovative use of lycra ensures that there’s something for everyone. “I have tried to use more body-friendly fabrics infused with trendy designs,” says the designer.

New Inspirations

Reliving the 50’s students of Pearl Academy of Fashion put up a fashion show, The Premiere, showcasing their evening wear collections.

The focus lay in customising the garments and not in market retailing. The show was inaugurated by eminent designer duo Gauri and Nainika.

The show witnessed the works of 44 students highlighting their creative ability through their chic and classy gowns. The students took up interesting themes like memories, reflection and dynamics and complemented their dresses with appropriate accessories. The designs captured the essence of the fashion circle of the grand couturiers like Christian Dior.

Safety Guidelines

The Air Hostess Academy (AHA) recently hosted an informative seminar on “Safety Guidance for Women in the Service Industry” in New Delhi. The event was presided by Sapna Gupta, Founder and Director, AHA.

IPS officer and Founder Chairperson, India Vision Foundation Super cop Kiran Bedi and Bollywood actor Kirron Kher constituted the panel.

The purpose of the seminar was to educate women in the service industry on various safety issues, laws and self-defence mechanisms.

Gupta said, “Women in the service industry interface with a wide variety of people, hence making them more vulnerable to harassment at work.” She felt “the first thing they need to learn is composure and tact. Above all, if cornered, they need to know the laws to help them keep their dignity intact.”

Bedi spoke about the various listings in the Constitution regarding the safety of women at the work place. She remarked that a working woman should never compromise on her safety and she should learn the basic self-defence methods to face any challenge with ease.

Kher opined that since the hospitality industry did require women workers to interact with customers, the key lay in being politely assertive in encountering uncomfortable situations.

The seminar was attended by a number of women, both from the aviation and hospitality industry and those aspiring to be a part of it.
