Admission into good schools is increasingly becoming out of reach for the middle class and lower income families. With private school managements charging exorbitant fees right from KG level, many parents are perforce sending their wards to government-run schools. While the quality is undoubtedly better in private schools, affordability is a big question mark. Besides the fees charged during admission, parents shell out fees categorised differently throughout the year. There is no transparency in admission procedures. Factors determining admission are a secret. The Government should take steps to improve quality of education in State-run schools and also deal strictly with the irregularities in school admissions.
