Art for ecology

Catch a glimpse of works by artists from 10 European Union countries

Appealing One of the works at the exhibition

This one is not for art’s sake. The ongoing art exhibition organised by the European Commission and the Embassy of Romania aims at highlighting the various ecological concerns faced by mankind today. As a result, ‘Art for Environment’ is the slogan of the show.

The exhibition, organised by Paharpur Business Centre, showcases 39 works of art by artists from 10 European Union member countries. The paintings are part of the private collections of the European Union ambassadors accredited to India. Though most of the art pieces are works of oil on canvas, one can see lithographs, graphics, acrylic and watercolour works as well. The themes range from nature, to feminine beauty, to the juxtaposition of wildlife and city life. The paintings also focus on the human aspect.

The painting “Beauty Mask” projects the face of a woman, hidden behind the colours, with only the lips visible. On the other hand, “Mixed Media” is more of a model than a painting and employs three different props – ladder, cotton and a cycle.

The event also marks the celebration of Europe Day, the day when the European Union came into existence.

The exhibition is on view at PBC till May 19.
