Ho and how

Chinese is passé now, go in for Vietnamese instead

Giving respite from the blistering heat this summer are the refreshing and chic white interiors of Blanco’s at Khan Market. The restaurant is hosting a month-long Vietnamese food and beer festival Hanoi O Ho! with a special focus on exotic herbs and greens.

The menu is quite an interesting mix of starters, soups and main dishes. The food is low on calories as well as spices, as most of the food is baked, steamed or poached. Herbs, fresh fruits and veggies are used in plenty. A lot of attention has been paid to keeping the food non-greasy and healthy.

One must try out the grilled lemon grass chicken on skewers, or the banh khoai, which are pancakes with black mushrooms and bell pepper. The Vietnamese garden rolls could be given a miss for their bland texture. Moving on towards the soups, the asparagus and prawn soup is a must-have for all seafood lovers.

The food is served in a simple manner, with the emphasis being on the foodstuff rather than the adornment.

The main course consists of different stir-fried vegetables along with steamed rice or noodles.

The chicken stir fried with lemon grass, served with steamed rice is a good option, and vegetarians can opt for the Xao hot dieu, which basically is stir fried snow peas, Chinese cabbage and mango with cashew nuts.

The food goes well with a variety of beer that the place has on offer.

The festival is gaining popularity as more and more people wish to have an exciting change of flavour away from their usual meals, which are high on spices and oil.

The festival continues till May 31 and an average meal for two would cost Rs.2000 without alcohol.
