Yasmin Haz zeros in on Kareena Kapoor’s ‘size-zero look’. Of how the right diet and exercise can make anyone look gorgeous

Hale and hearty Yasmin Haz says a combination of exercises and ‘healthy’ eating goes a long way
Fitness instructor Yasmin Haz walks into the room in a yellow leotard, hair tied up in a long pony looking great.
‘Tashan’
The mother of two boys aged 10 and seven, would give most women a complex because of her well-toned physique. A popular fitness instructor in Mumbai, Yasmin is said to have helped Kareena Kapoor gain the ‘size-zero look,’ for the Bollywood movie ‘Tashan.’ She says, “Actually, it is the media who has harped on the look. Kareena has worked out really hard. It was a mixture of a strict fitness regime and diet control for her. If you notice, she looks fit and healthy in the movie and is not anorexic-looking. There is a glow to her skin.” And that is the look Yasmin is trying to get from the contestants of Channel V’s ‘Get Gorgeous.’ The physical instructor and one of the judges of the programme, she says the contestants start their day at 6.30 a.m. with brisk workouts.
“It’s like boot camp. For them it’s a combination of exercises and ‘healthy’ eating. As they are in this profession, they should be able to withstand long and demanding working hours. The workouts are a mix of cardio, Pilates and resistance and functional training. Pilates are good strength-building exercises and great for the abs,” says Yasmin who works out two-and-a-half hours a day herself.
Yasmin says that most people have a misconception about food. “Some say that coconut oil and grated coconut used in dishes are bad. They are not if used wisely.” The ubiquitous ‘thoran’ has her gushing about its nutritional value. “Just be careful of the amount of oil you use. Likewise mango as a fruit is not fattening. It is when you use them in puddings or in other dishes that it becomes so. Potatoes when baked are healthy but not when they are fried.”
Yasmin has her own gym at her residence in Mumbai, “as that’s how much of a fitness freak I am.” She adds: “But I was never a fitness aficionado. In fact I was on the plump side when I was young. It was a friend who dragged me to the gym for the fun of it.” In Thiruvananthapuram, for the shoot of ‘Get Gorgeous Season Five,’ Yasmin was enchanted with the city’s lush greenery and the spicy food.
