There are zillion causes why one should reconnect with nature this season, says P. Sujatha Varma

Promising weather Heavens open up sprinkling cheer
Why is it that all of us city-bred folk get so caught up in the rat race that we fail to notice the beauty around us? When was the last time you managed to take time off your ever-hectic schedule to drink in the loveliness of nature? So much is on of
fer; the cool gentle puff of air whipping your face, the soft fragrance of flowers wafting around and the twitter of birds inspiring your inside to break into a song. But everyone is either going somewhere or has something to do. At the end of the day, we realise we never stopped to seize the fleeting moments of beauty.
Monsoon is the favourite season of many. Something about the smell of wet soil after the first showers is so refreshing. It makes you feel alive. Everything blooms. The streets are shiny and clean. Just watching the rain from the windowpane with your hands nursing a hot cuppa fills you with peace. The lure of raindrops is inviting. Your heart craves to let free the child in you, while the mind plays spoilsport pulling you back, telling you to be worldly wise.
But it’s okay to let your heart rule your mind at times and dash into the rain. “We caught you” the tiny drops seem to whisper. As you drench yourself, the clouds giggle and play. Water runs down your back as you look up at the dark rain-filled clouds staring down at you. A gentle breeze blows and sends a shiver through you. The wind and the rain together sing a beautiful melody and the moment is etched into your soul, washing away all the burdens you carry.
“The prolonged wait through the scorching summer was agonising. You feel it’s worth it when you sight the heavens opening up, pouring on to you like a drumbeat cleansing your spirit,” says an elated Shilpa who loves to splash water in puddles.
The sea in the monsoon is another mesmerising thing. You can keep staring into the horizon, lost in thought, evoking feelings as choppy and ecstatic as the ocean. “This is the season to let go of all the muck and experience a sense of liberation. The heavenly drops prod you to connect with surroundings that are generally left outside the realm of our sight,” says Kanchan striking a philosophical note. Monsoon is a reminder that we are all an integral part of this great energy. By being aware of it and acknowledging it, we can revel in the goodness of life and nourish our spirit.
