Genelia has come a full circle, is back in Hindi films

Take three Genelia stars in the Hindi version of ‘Bommarillu’ too
The Ha…Ha…Hasini fever is yet to die down. Long after the Telugu audience appreciated Genelia’s infectious enthusiasm as Hasini in Bommarillu, the Tamil audience have followed suit. The Tamil remake, Santosh Subramaniam, is a roaring hit. And the story doesn’t end there. The film is on its way to Bollywood. Aneez Bazmee will be directing the Hindi remake starring Genelia and Harman Baweja.
“I was initially scared while acting in the Tamil version. When I did Bommarillu, I didn’t know what the outcome would be and how important the character was for the film. But this time, the original kept haunting me.
Even when I had given a good expression for a shot, I’d go back and look at the monitor wondering if I had done enough. I had to work hard twice as much,” she says. The overwhelming response has left her twice as happy. “Basically, I like the character of Hasini and I won’t get bored playing it in Hindi as well.”
Much before that, there are two other films — Mere Baap Pehle Aap and Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.
The first, co-starring Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal, will release this Friday. “It’s not a slapstick comedy. There is a comedy quotient but there are a lot of emotional moments too.”
What’s really the talk of Bollywood is Aamir Khan’s production Jaane Tu…, which introduces Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan and marks the directorial debut of writer Abbas Tyrewala. “Imran is very talented and good to work with. And Abbas has established himself as a good writer with films like Maqbool and Munnabhai MBBS,” she says. Prod her about the story and Aamir Khan’s role as a producer and she says, “I am not allowed to speak about the film as of now.”
Her return to Bollywood is a homecoming considering she started her career with Hindi films. Remember Tujhe Meri Kasam with Riteish Deshmukh?
“It wasn’t a planned decision to move South; when Shankar offered me Boys I accepted it and a lot of good offers followed from Telugu and Tamil. It may sound clichéd but I mean it when I say I am not moving away to Bollywood now. I am working in Krishna Vamsi’s new Telugu film with Tarun.”
