Manner of disagreement
One might have missed reading the play or even watching it produced on stage, but one would be eager to know what the play was like from a review particularly in a highly respected paper like The Hindu.
Unfortunately, the review of “Water Lilies - a trilogy”, (MetroPlus, June 5 ) left a bad taste in his mouth. It’s all right if the reviewer has not liked either the play or production (as Mark Twain has rightly said “Every body is entattled to his or her views”) and my intention too is not to discuss it either, here; but what one expects from a reviewer is certain dignity in the use of language of disapproval. The tone and tenor are such as would suggest that the reviewer was determined to demolish the production even before stepping in to the theater. Even the half hearted compliment she bestows on the humour in the play is left handed. How unfortunate for Dhirtiman Chatterji to have chosen the day the reviewer watched the play to have had “a sudden fit coughing and quavering voice”.
