It’s the ‘write’ age

Launch of the book “For Kids By Kids” on June 20

Landmark, in association with Scholastic will host the book launch and a reading session of “For Kids By Kids” at its Citi Center store on R. K. Salai, on June 20 at 4.30 p.m. The young authors will be in conversation with Shreekumar Verma, well-known journalist, editor, radio broadcaster, entrepreneur and college lecturer

“For Kids By Kids”, an anthology of fiction and non-fiction stories, written by children of classes IV – IX, is a collection of the best entries received in the Scholastic Writing Awards.

The first “For Kids By Kids” that featured selected award-winning entries from SWA 2007, was released last year in June. Following the acclaim and popularity, the first book received, participation for the competition this year was phenomenal, encouraging Scholastic to bring out the second book.

For details contact Landmark at 2847 7777.

The idea behind the event is to showcase the new and exciting voices of some of India’s most promising writers between the ages of 10 and 16. The book is remarkable for the range of creativity and expressions with which the young writers tackle issues, both relevant to their real lives and experiences in the world of fantasy.

Scholastic Writing Awards

Each year, Scholastic reinforces its commitment to literacy and learning with numerous award programmes designed to inspire and reward excellence among students and educators. Scholastic Writing Awards (SWA) is one such initiative that provides children with an opportunity to earn national recognition. It is a nationwide short story and non-fiction writing competition for students that has been held annually for the last nine years. This year the competition was open to over 3,000 schools.
