Age old habit

It is not correct to say that youths acquire smoking and drinking habits only after watching films. These vices have been existing for centuries. By asking filmstars to refuse smoking and drinking scenes in films will not usher in any major change. Instead popular cine stars should help in spreading awareness of the health hazards. Such social messages from them will have a greater influence on the masses. Youths, who are the most vulnerable lot, should be made to realise that cinema is a mere illusion and smoking and drinking scenes of their favourite heroes are nothing but action to match their character in the film.

M.Sriram,

Madurai.
