The wide belt is back

Let the belt match your sashay

The fashion scene off late is all about shine and dazzle. This explains why Mumbai based fashion designer AD Singh’s glitzy creations dripping with Swarovski crystals and glimmer is popular even with Hollywood today. And as all fashion fads come and go, this craze for shine will loose its sheen and be replaced by a new rage. And though the swanky style is still in vogue, it is a bit toned down. Keeping in tune with the latest threads could be an unnecessary strain on the wallet, instead keep in tune with the accessories.

The hottest in accessories today is the big wide belt. Big, wide, bright, sober, plain, bejewelled, bronzed, with metallic trappings and satin sashes, there are scores of belt-styles to choose from. Embellished, woven, patent (shiny leather) or plain, big wide belts with big flashy buckles are hot. And don’t restrict the belt to the mid-waist only. Depending on the outfit it can migrate from just below the bust-line to the waist or low on the hips.

A plain dress teamed with a showy wide belt, a contrasting thin ‘strappy’ belt or a lovely wide satin sash changes the whole look. Long oversized shirts on leggings or pants look neat and trendy with a belt accenting the waist. Flowing skirts look great with a glitzy belt or feminine broad satin sash with a big jazzy buckle.

Team the belt with a big handbag, and the hot accessory for the rains - a cool transparent raincoat.
