Gandhi My Father

MAX, June 22, 12 noon

In this movie, the Mahatma has been depicted as a man who neglected his own son. Only a fully enlightened man could possibly detach himself from his loved ones. A man with such calibre leads his family and followers by example. In the movie, Gandhi speaks to his son and tries to make him understand where he is coming from, but poor Harilall (Akshaye Khanna) could not understand his father. When things go wrong with Harilall, the Mahatma could remain calm and accept that his son is a big tragedy. Had it been any other parents, they would have compromised their values to assist the son to get on his feet. The Mahatma didn’t do that, he is a true leader who leads by example.

John & Jane

SONY PIX, June 22, 8 p.m.

John & Jane is an astonishing look at the souls of the outsourced. This documentary finds an entirely original and fitting language to express the eerie dislocation of virtual work. The lives it depicts are real, but the film’s approach gives those lives the scope of speculative fiction. Glen and Sydney have taken Western names, partly for convenience. They sleep during the daytime.
