Calling all foodies

Feast on local goodies and culture at the Singapore Food Festival

Singapore is all set to host The Singapore Food Festival, 2008, from July 4 to July 27. During the period, Singapore’s local delights hog the entire spotlight.

Visitors can immerse themselves in Singapore’s food-loving culture, learn about the heritage of the local food through thematic events and most importantly, treat their tastebuds to the unique blend of Singaporean food.

The event, co-organised by Peter Knipp Holdings and the Singapore Tourism Board, is free. There is no entry charge for any of the events.

And, there are many visitor promotions lined up this year. In ‘The Chilli Crab Chase and Singapore Sampler’, tourists can savour a range of local delights, and the Singapore Chilli Crab from the participating seafood restaurants and F and B establishments island-wide and at the Changi International Airport.

The opening celebration will be at Lau Pa Sat (old market), and take you back in time to Singapore’s hawker scene in the 50s and 60s.

Food events will also be hosted at Chinatown (Lao Zhi Hao - dialect foods), Little India (Vegetarian Food Fair – July 12 and 13) and Kampong Glam (Malay Heritage Centre- Heritage Flavours).

From July 18-20 July, drop in at the Uniquely Singapore Seafood Event, at the shores of East Coast, and be entertained by the local stars.

Rounding things off will be the Great Sentosa Barbeque that takes place from July 25 to 27 on Sentosa Island.

Choose from a wide range of pre-packed foods on sale, and grill it yourself. Live music will make it an evening to remember.
