Animation seems the defining characteristic of many movies today. MAAC (Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics) organised Srijan-2008, a daylong Animation and VFX Film Festival at the N.C.U.I. Auditorium recently. MAAC, Producer-Director Ketan Mehta’s 3D animation and visual effects training academy, showcased fresh animation talent from Delhi and other parts of North India. Srijan 2008, a widely acclaimed animation festival, witnessed a large turnout of youngsters and amateur animators, keen on pursuing a career in the field.

The main highlight of the festival was a seminar by V.K. Gupta, renowned technical director of Hollywood blockbusters. “The VFX industry in India is evolving fast and with the current genre of Bollywood movies, we are seeing an increase in the use of high-end special effects,” said Gupta. There was also a specialised session on pre-production and character designing by Deepak Ganguly of Tata Elxis, a renowned studio in India which has done special Bollywood blockbusters like “Dhoom” and “Veer Zara”.
