Bharati Sagar’s canvases draw inspiration from the Ghoom monastery
|
Peace and calm The pictures exude tranquillity and harmony
Buddha seems to be the latest muse of many from the art fraternity. Just last month, Ananya Banerjee showcased an entire series on Buddha. And now comes Bharati Sagar’s ongoing show at Galerie Sara Arakkal which again takes a cue from Buddhism.
The exhibition draws from her trip to Ghoom, a small hilly locality above Darjeeling, which also has a monastery. There the artist saw many children being initiated into Buddhism. “I have tried to capture the innocence of these children. This series also reflect my state of mind. It depicts the peaceful state I am in right now as opposed to the earlier phase when I was struggling. I want viewers to feel peace and calm when they look at the paintings,” says Bharati who also specialises in ceramics. The faces of monks playing a flute or with a pigeon or even the face of a woman exude tranquillity. The eyes are prominently kind and deep. The colour palette is bright. Bharati first applies watercolours and dry pastels and later gives it a finishing touch with oils.
