Suffering burnout?

Relaxation techniques can help prevent it

Knowing how to relax can prevent job burnout, experts say. Critical self-examination is also important, according to Professor Volker Faust, German neurologist and psychiatrist. He told the Neu-Isenburg-based Aerzte Zeitung that people should not ignore warning signs of burnout such as over commitment, overwork, over time, followed by exhaustion, resignation and social withdrawal.

The best remedy was a healthy lifestyle that included sufficient sleep, balanced meals, and a daily walk. Leisure time “isn’t a luxury, but a regenerative duty, and hobbies aren’t silly, but resources.” Contact with other people was “pure psycho-hygiene’ and should not be seen as a waste of time. — dpa
