Asin becomes the first South Indian actor to grace Vogue India’s glossy cover
|
It seems like Asin is everywhere you turn these days. Everybody may be talking about her much-hyped Bollywood debut later this year, but first up for the actor is a fashionable detour… as the cover girl of Vogue India.
This July, Asin becomes the 10th cover girl of the style magazine since its launch in India, and the first South Indian actor to grace its glossy covers.
“We strongly believe that this year is going to belong to Asin with “Ghajini”,” said Priya Tanna, editor of Vogue India, speaking at the special unveiling of the July issue of the magazine at Landmark at Spencer Plaza recently. “She has a beguiling combination of the girl-next-door appeal and a very urban, modern confidence.”
Looking chic in a teal and black spaghetti-strap dress, Asin said she felt at the ‘top of the world.’ “It’s amazing to be on the cover of the fashion bible even before my national debut and before they’ve completed their one-year anniversary in India,” she said.
The decision to feature the actor on the cover came as part of Vogue India’s dedication to featuring new talent, said Priya: “Asin was a natural choice — she’s already a big name in this part of the country and of course, it’s automatically impressive that she’s been cast opposite Aamir in “Ghajini”.”
The Indian edition of Vogue launched in September 2007, and priced at a whopping Rs. 100, is available in 40 towns across the country.
