Where more is less

Career opportunities beyond engineering and medicine are wide and open. There are already 274 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu and a large number of universities also offering engineering courses. The Higher Education Minister Ponmudy has announced that in future more than 100 engineering colleges will be set up. If it happens, then colleges offering science courses like mathematics, physics and chemistry will close down. More and more students are opting for computer and IT courses these days. But they should realise that computer science is not a core subject. It is a technical subject like typewriting or shorthand which can be studied at same private institutions than colleges. Counseling should be done in all schools for future in subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, bio-chemistry and other new courses.

T.K.Vishnu Ram,

Madurai.
